Impression, Sunrise is an oil painting by French artist Claude Monet, created in 1872 depicting the harbour of Le Havre, Normandy, in misty early morning light. An orange sun rises and is reflected in the water, while small rowing boats and industrial cranes are visible through the mist. When exhibited in 1874, the art critic Louis Leroy mockingly borrowed the painting's title to name the entire exhibition 'Impressionist' — and the term stuck. The painting is at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris.
