The Hay Wain is an oil painting by English landscape artist John Constable, completed in 1821. It depicts a hay wain (a large farm cart) crossing the River Stour at Flatford Mill in Suffolk, England, with a mill cottage and trees on the left and hay fields in the distance. The painting is displayed at the National Gallery in London. It was voted the second greatest painting in Britain in a 2005 public poll. It is one of the most celebrated images of the English landscape.
