Monet's Water Lilies is a series of approximately 250 oil paintings depicting the water lily pond at the artist's garden in Giverny, France, created between 1896 and 1926. The most celebrated display is the large-scale Grandes Décorations cycle, housed in two purpose-built oval rooms at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, France, which Monet gave to the French state as a gift and which opened to the public in 1927, after his death. The series is the most extended meditation on a single subject in the history of Western painting.
