About Guangdong Museum
Founded in 1957, the Guangdong Museum moved in 2010 into a striking new home in Guangzhou's Zhujiang New Town designed by Hong Kong architect Rocco Yim. The cantilevered, perforated facade was inspired by traditional carved Cantonese ivory boxes — locals call it the 'jade box'.
Its galleries cover Guangdong's history, natural history, and the export-art tradition that linked the Pearl River Delta with the rest of the world through the Canton trade.
The museum sits in the heart of Guangzhou's CBD alongside the Guangzhou Opera House and Canton Tower, making it easy to combine with an evening on the Pearl River.
