The 10 November Museum is Surabaya's memorial to the Battle of Surabaya of November 1945, built almost entirely underground beside the Tugu Pahlawan (Heroes Monument) and opened in 2000. Its two floors hold battle dioramas, captured weapons, Bung Tomo's radio and diary, and the original recording of his rallying speech.

Mpu Tantular Museum is East Java's provincial state museum, which grew out of a Surabaya city history museum opened in 1937 and has stood on Jalan Raya Buduran in Sidoarjo, just south of Surabaya, since 2004. Its galleries run from a Homo erectus fossil and Hindu-Buddhist statues to Old Javanese inscriptions, wayang and colonial-era objects.
